Cloudburst in Himachal swept away several tourist camps and houses; four missing

Manali: It is expected that at least four people have been missing after a deadly cloudburst hit Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district on Wednesday morning.

A woman is reported to have drowned at the dam site of the Malana hydel project in Kullu district following another cloudburst. Besides that, two people are believed to have drowned after a car crashed into the Beas near Babeli village in Kullu.

The cloudburst swept away a huge number of tourist camps and some houses as well.

Kullu senior superintendent of police, Gurdev Sharma, has confirmed that four people were missing after the cloudburst.

He said the bridge on the Parvati river, which provides entrance to the village, had also been washed away.

The following are the names of the missing persons: Rohit Kumar from Sundernager in Mandi district, Kapil from Pushkar in Rajasthan; Rahul Chaudhary from Dharamshala; and Arjun from Banjar in Kullu district.

Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing a heavy downpour since late Tuesday night. The water level of rivers and nullahs in several locations has increased rapidly.

Police and rescue teams were rushed to the spot to continue their relief operations. However, most of the roads were blocked, which has made it difficult to reach the spot.

Officials have no idea how many people were killed or injured and the loss of property in this natural disaster, but relief efforts are underway.
