CM Yogi Criticizes Mamata Banerjee Government: Constitution Doesn’t Permit Religion-Based Reservation

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has targeted the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal. After the decision of the Calcutta High Court, he cornered Mamata Banerjee and said that the TMC government, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, following the height of political appeasement, had given reservation to 118 Muslim castes by forcibly putting them in the OBC category in 2010.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the decision given by the Kolkata High Court not on OBC reservation but on Muslim reservation is welcome. The Constitution of India does not allow reservation on the basis of religion. Chief Minister of West Bengal, the TMC government, acting at the height of political appeasement, had given reservation to 118 Muslim castes by forcibly including them in OBC in 2010. That means they were forcefully usurping the rights of OBCs. On this unconstitutional act, the High Court has reversed the decision of the TMC government and has given a strong slap.

Calcutta High Court gave a big decision regarding the reservation of Other Backward Classes i.e. OBC in Bengal. In its decision on Wednesday, the court has canceled this reservation given to many sections in 2010. While giving the verdict, the court said that giving such reservation in vacancies in services and posts in the state is illegal. This decision of the court is now being seen as a big setback for the Mamata government of the state.
