CM Yogi Orders Inspection of Old Bridges in Uttar Pradesh After Bihar Incidents

Following several bridge collapses in Bihar recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an immediate inspection of all bridges and flyovers in the state that are over 50 years old. If any of these structures are found unsafe, traffic on them must be stopped right away.

In the past 16 days, ten bridges have collapsed in Bihar, affecting districts like Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Araria, East Champaran, and Kishanganj.

To prevent similar incidents, CM Yogi has instructed officials to prioritize safety and quality in all Public Works Department projects. This includes checking the importance and necessity of roads and bridges before approval.

Improving Road Infrastructure

The Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing road improvement efforts:

Daily Road Work: Every day, at least 9 km of roads are being widened or strengthened, and 11 km of new roads are being built in villages.

Kanwar Yatra Routes: Roads used during the Kanwar Yatra are to be repaired immediately.

Block Headquarters Connectivity: Two-laning of roads leading to block headquarters should be completed quickly.
FDR Technology: Over half of the roads in other districts should use Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) technology.

CM Yogi stressed the importance of innovation and suggested working with top institutions like IITs. He emphasized that projects must stick to their timelines and maintain high quality, with clear start and completion dates included in the Detailed Project Reports (DPR).

This proactive approach by the Uttar Pradesh government aims to ensure the safety and quality of the state’s infrastructure following the alarming bridge collapses in Bihar.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s proactive stance comes as a direct response to the alarming bridge collapses in neighboring Bihar, reinforcing the state’s commitment to maintaining and improving its infrastructure safety and quality.
