Leinar Monteiro, director of an online radio station, and Delia Contreras, director of an online news website, were killed in the incident. Magdalena’s police commander Andres Cerna said preliminary investigations suggested a fight had taken place between Monteiro and several others. After this incident Monteiro decides to go with Dilia and another person in his car and they are killed on the way.
Magdalena police commander Andres Serna said that, according to preliminary investigations, a fight had occurred involving Montero and several others. “After this act of intolerance, the journalist decided to leave in his car alongside Dilia and another man, and on the way they were killed,” the officer told reporters.
“We are committed to solving this tragic matter in the shortest possible time for the citizens of Magdalena,” he said. He said that both the journalists were highly appreciated by their union, family and acquaintances. However, officials said it was not clear whether the killings were related to the profession of journalists. At the same time, the Foundation for Press Freedom called for an early investigation of the matter and his work should be taken into account during the investigation.
