Indian players expressed happiness and gratitude for being honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their excellent performance at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, in which Nikhat Zareen gifted them boxing ‘gloves’ and sprinter Hima Das gifted them the traditional Assamese gamchha. PM Modi hosted the Indian contingent at his residence on Saturday and honored the players. Indian players performed brilliantly in Birmingham, winning 61 medals, including 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals. India finished fourth in the overall medal tally.
Boxer Nikhat tweeted, “Honoured to gift Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sir the boxing ‘gloves’ signed by all the boxers. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. Had a wonderful day with my fellow players who made the country proud. World Championship gold medalist boxer Nikhat won the gold medal in his weight category in Birmingham.
