Communal clashes spark in Vadodara over Diwali firecrackers

A communal clash erupted at Panigate in Gujarat’s Vadodara early on Tuesday over the bursting of crackers, police have detained at least 20 people.

Vadodara: A communal clash erupted at Panigate in Gujarat’s Vadodara early on Tuesday over the bursting of crackers. Police have detained at least 20 people regarding the brawl between the two communities.

Vadodara police commissioner Shamsher Singh said the skirmish took place due to some misunderstanding between the two groups. Currently, the situation is under control. After that, no untoward has taken place 

K K Makwana, an inspector at the Panigate police station, said some people suffered minor injuries but there were no reports of any serious injuries or casualties. The fight occurred at around 12:45am on Tuesday.

A sky-rocket cracker hit a motorbike, which resulted in a brawl between the two groups. The vehicle caught fire and was fully damaged. After that, a stone pelting incident took place. Police reached the spot and investigated the matter. Meanwhile, about 20 people have been apprehended so far 

Makwana said that one person allegedly hurled a petrol bomb at policemen from a building. “Further investigation is underway.”

On October 3, police nabbed about 40 people after clashes erupted between two communities over the hoisting of flags near Vadodara’s Savli. They were all released, and the flags were taken down.
