Congress calls a strategy meet after RaGa disqualification; Top leaders including Sonia, Priyanka Gandhi attends

If the decision of Rahul Gandhi's sentence is upheld by the higher courts i.e. the High Court and the Supreme Court, then he will not be able to contest elections for the next 8 years. After completing the sentence of 2 years, he will be disqualified for six years.

New Delhi: After Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was convicted in the defamation case and sentenced to 2 years, his membership of Parliament was canceled on Friday. The Congress called a meeting to decide the future course of action on this issue. Sonia Gandhi, Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress General Secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Rajiv Shukla and Tariq Anwar, senior leaders Anand Sharma, Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik, Salman Khurshid and Pawan Kumar Bansal were also present in the meeting.

At the same time, before taking action on Rahul, 14 opposition parties, including the Congress, protested first in Parliament and then on the streets of Delhi. Opposition parties took out a march till Vijay Chowk, the posters which were taken by the opposition MPs, it was written on them – Democracy is in danger.

Rahul’s name removed from Lok Sabha website
The Secretariat of the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, said in a notice on Friday, “Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified from the membership of the Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction.” Rahul’s name has also been removed from the website of the Lok Sabha.

About 3 hours after the verdict, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, ‘I am fighting for the voice of India, I am ready to pay any cost’.

After the decision to cancel the membership, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that even if we had to go to jail to protect democracy, we would go. Here, in support of Rahul Gandhi, the party has started a ‘Don’t be afraid’ campaign on social media. It has also been posted on the Twitter handle of the party. Party workers are sharing it.
