Congress leader RaGa disqualified as member of Parliament after Surat court verdict

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has suffered a major setback. Rahul Gandhi's membership of the Lok Sabha has been cancelled. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified by the Lok Sabha Secretariat after he was sentenced by a Surat court to two years imprisonment in a defamation case.

New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has suffered a major setback. Rahul Gandhi’s membership of the Lok Sabha has been cancelled. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified by the Lok Sabha Secretariat after he was sentenced by a Surat court to two years imprisonment in a defamation case. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a notification in this regard. However, the court suspended the sentence for 30 days.

According to information received, Rahul Gandhi representing the Wayanad parliamentary seat in Kerala was on Friday disqualified from being a member of the Lok Sabha in view of his conviction in a defamation case by a court in Surat.The notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat said that the order regarding his disqualification will be effective from March 23. The notification states that he (Rahul Gandhi) has been disqualified under Article 102 (1) of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Representation of the PeopleAct, 1951.

Maharashtra Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said that Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as an MP. As soon as the sentence of 2 years imprisonment was pronounced, we suspected this. They could have announced 6 months or 1 year imprisonment but 2 years sentence meant that they had further plans and they did it today. did so I condemn this action. This shows how scared Narendra Modi is of Rahul Gandhi.

Congress MP KC Venugopal said that the day Rahul Gandhi raised questions against Adani, the PM, such a conspiracy was launched to silence Rahul Gandhi. This is a clear case of the anti-democratic, dictatorial attitude of the BJP government.

Let it be known that a Surat court on Thursday sentenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment in a criminal defamation case registered in 2019 for his comment on Modi’s surname. The court, however, also granted bail to Gandhi and stayed the execution of his sentence for up to 30 days, so that Congress leaders could challenge the verdict.
