Victim identified as 50-year-old Mehtab Singh. Giving information about the incident, the police said that the incident occurred when Congress’ Jalalpur Mangrol block chief, had gone to a tent shop in connection with the inauguration of a local village revenue office.
More than half a dozen miscreants fired indiscriminately at Mehtab Gurjar in the market. After the massacre, the attackers fled while firing in the air. On receiving the information, the police also set up a blockade, but the attackers were not caught. The police have taken the body into custody and kept it in the mortuary of the district hospital. A large number of people are present at the district hospital.
According to the information, Congress Mandal President Mehtab Singh Gurjar, son of Pradyuman Singh Gurjar (50), resident of Mangrol village of Maniya police station area, had come to Maniya town on Friday evening to collect the tent material for the inauguration of Patwar Ghar. During this, half a dozen miscreants started firing indiscriminately at Mehtab in the crowded market.
In the firing, Mehtab was hit by 8 bullets in his chest, head and stomach, due to which he died on the spot. After murder, the attackers fled from the spot. The police tried to catch the attackers by setting up a blockade around the town, but could not trace them. According to sources, Mehtab was murdered due to old enmity.
Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene and rushed the injured Congress leader to the district hospital in Dholpur, where doctors declared him dead. On the other hand, in view of the tension prevailing in the area, a heavy police force has been deployed.
Police station in-charge Anil Kumar Jasoria said that the police is trying to identify the attackers on the basis of CCTV footage and video. It is suspected that the crime was committed due to old enmity. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the district hospital. The post-mortem of the body will be conducted on Saturday morning and will be handed over to the family members.
Victim 50-year-old Mehtab Singh, the Block President of Mangrol, was a resident of Jalalpur. It is reported that Singh had come to Mania on Friday evening from his village with a tractor-trolley to collect tent supplies. While he was loading the goods on the trolley, unknown individuals on a motorcycle attacked him. Police probe into the matter is underway.
