Police today detained Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress MPs from outside the party headquarters in Delhi. Like other party leaders, Priyanka, wearing a black dress as a symbol of protest, earlier climbed the barricades and reached a place and staged a dharna.

Later, the women policemen dragged them from this place to their vehicles. Priyanka’s brother and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was also detained by the police shortly before this.

Priyanka Gandhi along with all her leaders had come out on the road against inflation. She had announced that she would go to gherao the PM’s residence. After this, as soon as Priyanka came out of the party headquarters, the police stopped her there. Priyanka broke the first security cordon by climbing the barricading, but after that the police did not let her go further. Priyanka sat there on the road and started protesting. Shortly after this, the women police officers took him into custody from there and took him away in a police car.

Congress Working Committee members and other senior leaders planned to participate in the “PM House Gherao” but police barricaded key places, thwarting the plan citing security. Not only this, the administration imposed prohibitory orders to ban large gatherings in some parts of Delhi before the Congress march. Citing these restrictions, the police refused to allow the protest.

In a video tweeted by the party — apparently while going towards the party office for the protest — Priyanka Gandhi says, “The government thinks it can silence us. It thinks that by showing its force, it can make us to quietly sit in buses… But we have a purpose.”

Before pulling Priyanka Gandhi into a bus, police were seen trying to persuade her to end the protest. But she can be seen arguing with a policewoman, gesturing that she has a right to protest.
