Congress President Poll results 2022: Mallikarjun Kharge elected new Cong Prez, first non-gandhi Cong Prez in 24 yrs

New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge has become the new president of the country's oldest political party, Congress. Kharge has won the election of Congress President. Mallikarjun Kharge got 7897 votes. While Shashi Tharoor, who was contesting against him, got 1072 votes. Congress got a president outside the Gandhi family after 24 years.

New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge has become the new president of the country’s oldest political party, Congress. Kharge has won the election of Congress President. Mallikarjun Kharge got 7897 votes. While Shashi Tharoor, who was contesting against him, got 1072 votes. At the same time, 416 votes became invalid. A total of 9385 delegates had cast their votes in the voting for the post of Congress President on October 17. Congress got a president outside the Gandhi family after 24 years.

Shashi Tharoor has congratulated Kharge on his victory. Shashi tweeted and said, “Being the President of Congress is a great honor and a great responsibility. I congratulate Mallikarjun Kharge for this victory. It was a privilege for me to have the support of over a thousand allies and to carry forward the hopes and aspirations of so many Congress well wishers across India.

Counting of votes began at 10 am on Tuesday. About 9500 delegates (members of the electoral college), including Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and several other senior leaders, voted on Monday to elect the new President of the party. By Tuesday evening, the ballot boxes from all the polling stations of the Congress in different states of the country had been brought to the Congress headquarters. They were kept in the strong room built inside the Congress headquarters.

Let us tell you that Sonia Gandhi has commanded the post of President of the party since 1998. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has also been the president of the party for some time. He resigned from the post of Speaker after the defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Now after 24 years, a non-Gandhi has got the command of the party. After becoming the president, Mallikarjun Kharge will have to work on making this old party of the country strong again.
