Kollam: A group of Congress workers allegedly intimidated and vandalised a vegetable store in Kerala’s Kollam. The reason behind this was that he was unable to provide Rs 2,000 that the party workers had requested for the Congress’s ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The shop owner, S Fawaz, stated in a video, “Some members of the Congress harassed me and my workers under the pretence of collecting money for the Bharat Jodo Yatra. I could only offer them Rs. 500 despite their request for Rs. 2000. They insulted my customers and threw away vegetables that were kept in my store. “
In addition, the Congress workers threatened to kill me and attacked workers in the shop, “Fawaz said.”
Fawaz’s store was damaged by five people. Aneesh Khan, the state general secretary of the Youth Congress, was one of the culprits.
The moment the video went viral, the Congress issued a statement saying the act was done by “fringe elements” and the party has been ready to take strict action against the culprits.
For years, crowdfunding has been done by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee to run party. “These three were clearly fringe elements and exemplary action has been taken immediately by the PCC President,” Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president K Sudhakaran said three party workers involved in the incident have been suspended with immediate effect. “They are against the ideology of the Congress. Such behaviour is inexcusable. The party is crowdfunding small donations voluntarily, unlike others who get corporate donations, K Sudhakaran said.
