Reports said he allegedly committed suicide. A suicide note by Patil that was, reportedly, circulated on WhatsApp, held Eshwarappa “directly responsible for his death”. In the note, Patil requested people to back former chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa. Patil’s family told the media that they had received death threats.

Eshwarappa is responsible for my death. He has to be punished. I’ve suppressed all my desires and am doing this. I request the PM, CM, and Yediyurappa to take care of my family, “Patil purportedly wrote in the WhatsApp message.

The Congress on Tuesday demanded the immediate arrest of Karnataka’s Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister, K.S. Eshwarappa. The party made the demand after a contractor who accused Eshwarappa of demanding bribes was found dead in a lodge in Udupi.

Following the news of his death, state Congress chief D.K. Shivakumar demanded that Eshwarappa be arrested for murder and an FIR be lodged against him. Shivakumar said, “Everyone knows it’s a murder. He died over corruption allegations (against Eshwarappa). “

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah lashed out at Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. But Siddaramaiah said, “Bommai as a CM has failed to take any action against his minister, K.S. Eshwarappa, who should be dismissed from the cabinet. Eshwarappa is responsible for Patil’s death. He must be arrested. The entire state knows Eshwarappa is a corrupt man. “

Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai said the contractor’s death would be thoroughly investigated, adding that the government would not interfere in the matter.

“Body found in Udupi lodge. Police have reached the spot. A preliminary investigation is being conducted. The forensic department is also on the spot. Action will be taken after preliminary information is given. The background of the death will be thoroughly investigated. From our side, there’ll be no interference, “said Bommai.

A few weeks ago, Patil wrote a letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he alleged that Eshwarappa had not cleared outstanding bills due to him. He accused the BJP leader of lies, corruption, and irregularities, and urged PM Modi to direct Eshwarappa to settle his bills.
