Controversy took place over an Independence Day drama in a Punjab school that depicted a Muslim man as a terrorist
Chandigarh: A play was held at the Bhulath assembly constituency in Punjab’s Jalandhar. School students in their play allegedly depicted a Muslim man who had a religious white cap on his head as a terrorist, which made several people unhappy.
The Muslim community, along with others, turned against such an act. It means giving any religion a bad name. Gradually, the matter took on a political colour
The Congress party has demanded an apology from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying that the drama had given a bad name to a particular community, which has portrayed the entire Muslim community as terrorists.
Earlier, on Independence Day, Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi lashed out at the central government and said that it has been trying to malign leaders of the stature of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru for its political gain.
She also said that the Centre was trying to belittle the sacrifices made by Indian forces during the freedom movement.
