Mumbai: In breaking development in this case, The PMLA court has sent Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut to Enforcement Directorate custody till August 4 in a money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought eight days custody of Sanjay Raut. ED officials on Monday took Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut to the hospital for examination. After medical examination, Raut was produced before the special PMLA court here.
The ED had arrested Shiv Sena spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut late on Sunday night after a long interrogation that lasted for nearly 16 hours. The Enforcement Directorate’s action against Raut comes in connection with the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chaal scam. The ED had on Sunday arrested Raut in this case after raiding his house for nine hours.
According to ED sources, cash worth Rs 11.5 lakh was recovered from Sanjay Raut’s house during the raids. ED seized it. ED sources say that Sanjay Raut was not cooperating in the interrogation due to which he was called to the Enforcement Directorate office. ED officials interrogated Raut for over six hours at the ED office located at Ballard Estate in south Mumbai. Later Sanjay Raut was arrested.
The Enforcement Directorate produced Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut before the special sessions court. Sanjay Raut’s brother Sunil spoke to him as soon as he reached the court. During this, Shiv Sena supporters were seen shouting slogans outside the court. Before entering the courtroom, Sanjay Raut assured supporters in the court corridor that efforts to break Shiv Sena would not be successful. Senior advocate Ashok Mundargi appeared for Sanjay Raut.
