Crackdown on Alleged Unlawful Religious Conversions: 9 Arrested, 42 Booked in Sonbhadra, UP

In a recent development, the Uttar Pradesh Police has taken stringent action against alleged unlawful religious conversions, booking 42 individuals and arresting nine of them in Sonbhadra district. The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by Narsingh, a resident of Malhiya Tola in the Chopan police station area.

According to the complaint, individuals were reportedly enticing tribal and economically disadvantaged populations to convert to Christianity using fraudulent means. The police conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the recovery of a substantial amount of religious books, propaganda materials, and laptops from the arrested individuals.

Additional Superintendent of Police Kalu Singh provided details, stating that the complaint prompted the registration of an FIR against the 42 accused under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. Among the arrested individuals are Jaiprabhu from Chennai, Ajay Kumar from Robertsganj in Uttar Pradesh, and Chekka Emmanuel from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh.

The remaining arrested suspects were identified as Rajendra Kol, Chhotu alias Ranjan, Parmanand, Sohan, Prem Nath Prajapati, and Ram Pratap. The arrests signify the state’s commitment to maintaining law and order while addressing concerns related to unlawful religious conversions. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited as the legal proceedings unfold.
