Crackdown on Inter-State Sex Trafficking in Arunachal Pradesh

Thehave successfully dismantled an inter-state sex trafficking and prostitution network, rescuing five minors aged between 10 to 15 years. This operation has resulted in the apprehension of 21 individuals, including government officials, such as a deputy superintendent of police and a deputy director of health services.

The modus operandi of the trafficking involved two sisters who operated a beauty parlour in Itanagar, trafficking minor girls from Dhemaji, Assam, into the state. Acting on intelligence, law enforcement conducted a targeted raid in Chimpu, near Itanagar, leading to the rescue of two minor girls from a suspected brothel.

According to Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh, the minor girls disclosed that they were coerced into prostitution upon their arrival in Itanagar by the sisters and their accomplices.

Prompt intervention by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) triggered an investigation, uncovering two additional minor victims in the custody of another woman, all of whom have since been rescued. The perpetrators, including the women involved, have been arrested and are in police custody. Meanwhile, the rescued minors have been relocated to shelter homes, where they are receiving comprehensive medical and psychological support.

During the course of the investigation, the police arrested six additional suspects, including three pimps and three sexual assailants. Furthermore, another minor girl was recovered from a lodge at Zoo Road in Chimpu on May 11, the SP said.

The police team discovered that the suspects had also trafficked another minor girl, who was also a victim of the child sex trafficking ring. Consequently, a raid was conducted at a hotel, following which the accused persons were arrested.
