India played its first Test against Pakistan of the series on November 15, 1989, under the captaincy of Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The long journey of Sachin got underway at the tender age of just over 16. The kid was considered to be the next Sunil Gavaskar for Indian cricket.

Before his arrival in Test cricket, he scored heavily on the domestic circuit in the last year. Sachin and his childhood friend Kambli had already made a record-breaking partnership in school cricket.

Sachin left his mark in the first series. He handled Imran Khan, Akram, Qadir, and others with ease. Cricket pundits predicted that this kid would set the cricket pitch on fire. He proved it with his breath-taking batting across the world.

That Test was not witnessed live on TV due to the 9th Lok Sabha elections. That time, Doordarshan was the only channel where all telecasts used to take place.

Sachin, as a player, played tremendous knocks on numerous occasions, which are difficult to count in his illustrious career.

The master blaster was outstanding in both the formats of Test cricket and ODIs. All the bowlers wanted to see him on the non striker end. He blasted all the top bowlers in the world and scored hefty runs in all conditions.

Sachin was a deceptive bowler as well. He had changed the complexion of the game numerous times with his gentle bowling.

When he hung his bat that time, he had a huge number of records in his kitty.

He represented India 200 times in Test cricket, scoring 1592 runs with 51 centuries and grabbing 46 wickets as well. He played 463 ODIs and scored 18426 runs and hit 49 hundreds. In the meantime, he took 154 wickets.

Sachin is a cricket icon, and cricket is incomplete without Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar.
