Mumbai: According to a police complaint, an argument over a selfie quickly turned into a baseball bat fight and car chase for cricketer Prithvi Shaw in Mumbai. Some fans got enraged after refusing to take a selfie and attacked the cricketer’s car. The incident took place on Wednesday evening around 4 pm. During this, Prithvi Shaw was sitting in the car with his friend. Then some people came there and asked to take selfie with them. On Prithvi’s refusal, his car was attacked with a baseball bat. The fans broke the windshield of the cricketer’s car and also demanded Rs 50,000.
Oshiwara police has registered an FIR against 8 people in this case. Of these, 2 are nominated and 6 are unknown. The people named in the complaint – two of whom have been identified as Shobhit Thakur and Sana alias Sapna Gill. Both have denied the allegations and have accused Prithvi Shaw of attacking them first.
In this case, Ali Kashif Khan, the lawyer of the accused Sana alias Sapna Gill, says that the fight was not done by Sapna, but by Prithvi Shaw. It can also be seen in the video of the fight that the stick is in Prithvi’s hand. The lawyer says that his client Sapna has been kept sitting in the Oshiwara police station. He is not even being allowed to go for medical.
According to the police, the incident took place near Sahara Star Hotel. Prithvi Shaw and his friends went to a restaurant for dinner. During this, a fan of the cricketer and a female fan came near his table. Female fan started taking selfie with the cricketer. When he did not stop doing this even after taking some photos and videos, the cricketer called the owner of the restaurant and asked him to remove the fans. The manager of the restaurant removed the fans from there. But angry with this, both the fans kept waiting for the cricketer outside the restaurant.
The accused surrounded the cricketer’s car with baseball bats. Stopped the car at a signal and broke the windshield. The fans also demanded Rs 50,000 from Prithvi’s friend. The matter escalated when the glass of the car broke. There was an argument between the fans and the cricketer. Later the Oshiwara police sent Prithvi home in another car.
Oshiwara police have registered a case against the accused under sections 143, 148, 149, 384, 437, 504, 506 of IPC. A total of 8 accused have been made including Sana alias Sapna Gill and Shobhit Thakur. No arrest has been made so far.
