New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets and won the IPL 2023 title. MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings also equaled Mumbai Indians’ record of winning the IPL title 5 times. Dhoni has won titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023 seasons. In the rain-interrupted match, Chennai had a target of 171 runs to win in 15 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

In the last over, Chennai Super Kings needed 13 runs to win. Three runs came off the first four balls. After this, CSK needed 10 runs on the last two balls. Ravindra Jadeja was on strike. Jadeja hit a six on the fifth ball. The final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 was played between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After this, Jadeja gave the victory to Chennai by hitting a four in the last ball. Jadeja returned unbeaten on 15 runs in 6 balls with the help of a four and a six, while Shivam remained unbeaten on 32 runs in 21 balls with the help of 2 sixes. Devon Conway scored the maximum 47 runs in 25 balls for Chennai. Ajinkya Rahane scored 27 runs. Mohit Sharma took 3 wickets and Noor Ahmed took 2 wickets for Gujarat.

The final of this IPL was to be held on May 28, but was postponed for a day due to rain. That is, this title match was held on Reserve-Day (May 29). Even in this match, the rain disturbed. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 5 overs and the target was also reduced.

Batting first, young Gujarat Titans batsman Sai Sudarshan had spoiled the condition of the bowlers with his explosive batting. Sudarshan played an excellent inning of 96 runs in 47 balls. He missed his century by just 4 runs. Due to this explosive innings of Sudarshan, Gujarat scored a huge score of 214 runs for 4 wickets in the final match against CSK in the stipulated 20 overs. Chennai were given a target of 215 runs to win, which was reduced to 171 in 15 overs due to rain.

Batting first after losing the toss, Gujarat had a great start. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill added 67 runs for the first wicket. Shubman was stumped by Mahendra Singh Dhoni on the ball of Ravindra Jadeja in the seventh over. He could score 39 runs in 20 balls. It includes seven fours. After this, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudarshan shared a 64-run partnership for the second wicket.

Meanwhile, Saha completed his half-century. He was caught by Deepak Chahar at the hands of Dhoni. Saha got out after scoring 54 runs in 39 balls with the help of five fours and a six. Sudarshan and captain Hardik shared a 110-run partnership for the third wicket. Sudarshan played an inning of 96 runs in the final. This was his third half-century in IPL 2023. He was lbw out by Mathisha Pathirana in the 20th over.

Rashid was caught by Pathirana Rituraj Gaikwad on the last ball of the innings. He could not even open an account. Hardik remained unbeaten after scoring 21 runs in 12 balls with the help of two sixes. Pathirana took two wickets from Chennai. At the same time, Deepak Chahar and Jadeja got one wicket each.

The 214 runs made by Gujarat is the biggest score in the IPL final. Earlier in 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 208 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs in the 2016 IPL final. Before this, 200 runs were chased only once in the IPL final. In the year 2014, Kolkata chased 200 runs against Punjab in the final.
