Customs officers at the Chennai airport detained a female Ugandan traveller who was carrying cocaine worth Rs 8.03 crores on Monday, October 3.

Chennai: Customs officers at the Chennai airport detained a female Ugandan traveller who was carrying cocaine worth Rs 8.03 crores on Monday, October 3. The drugs were hidden in the bottom of the carton box, which was being carried by the African woman.

Officials detained Noeline Nampeera, a Ugandan woman, after receiving trustworthy information. She had landed in Chennai on Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Abeba.

During the checking of her luggage, the authorities discovered 1.431 kg of heroin and 1.756 kg of methaqualone. According to reports, the total market value of the drugs is Rs. 8.03 crore in the international market.

The drugs were discovered hidden inside a corrugated cardboard box’s inner layers. The contraband was confiscated in accordance with the Customs Act of 1962 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. The woman has been detained, and a further probe is underway to get to the bottom of the matter.
