CWG 2022: Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen wins elusive 20th gold medal, beats Malaysia’s Ng Tze Yong in men’s singles

New Delhi: On 11th day of commonwealth games India gets two gold medal in badminton event. PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen both wins gold in women’s and men’s singles respectively. Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen wins elusive gold in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. He defeated Ng Tze Yong of Malaysia in the final match of men’s singles badminton. Lakshya Sen registered a 19-21, 21-9, 21-16 win against Ji Yong.

This final match between Lakshya Sen and Ji Yong was very tough. From the very beginning, both the players kept giving tough competition to each other. Lakshya Sen lost his first game here 19-21. At one time the match was level at 18-18, but in the last, the goals were lagging behind.

In the second game also, the competition of equality continued. Lakshya was trailing 6-8 here but then came back strongly and overtook Ji Yong 21-9. After this, in the third game, Lakshya maintained the lead from the beginning. Lakshya won the third game 21-16. Let us tell you that before this match, Lakshya Sen had clashed with Ji Yong twice. The goal was won in both these matches as well.

This is the first Commonwealth Games for 20-year-old Lakshya Sen. World No. 10 Lakshya had made it to the final after defeating Jia Heng of Singapore in a thrilling semi-final match of Badminton men’s singles here. He won the game against Jia 21-10, 18-21, 21-16. On the other hand, Ji Yong Ng of Malaysia entered the final by defeating Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth in the semi-final match.

This is the second major medal for Lakshya Sen in singles events. Earlier, he has won the bronze medal in the World Championship held in 2021. At the same time, many big medals have come in his share in the team event. In the Commonwealth Games 2022, he has won silver in the mixed team event. Men’s team gold in Thomas Cup 2022 and men’s team bronze in Asia Team Championship are also included in his big achievements.
