Mumbai: The Rajasthan Royals pocketed a timely win against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) amidst cementing their playoffs spot. RR’s victory not only put them in the second spot but also increased their net run rate (NRR) as well. RR are on the doorstep of reaching the playoffs with yesterday’s victory against LSG.
The Gujarat Titans were fired up after defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by seven wickets in yesterday’s second encounter. They have already qualified for the next stage and have been treating their remaining matches as practise to assemble a perfect eleven to help them in the playoffs. The form of Wriddhiman Saha against CSK adds an additional asset for GT in their upcoming crucial matches.
DC and PBKS to go all out in tonight’s encounter
Both the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings are gearing up for today’s important match. Both the sides have 12 points each and they have to go all out to snatch victory in tonight’s match at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.
Monday’s clash between the two most aggressive batting sides in this edition of the IPL will be a treat to watch. DC and PBKS are the top-two teams, respectively, that have accumulated the highest powerplay run rate this season. DC have the best boundary percentage (20.6), while Punjab are third on that list (19.1). It is amazing that seven percent of both franchises’ runs have come in sixes. The two hard-hitting openers, Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner, have hit the bulk of the maximums.
In the earlier fixture between the two sides, Delhi’s spinners spun a web for the PBKS batters to never allow them to score freely. After that match, the DC trio haven’t been able to repeat their performance. Kuldip Yadav is the triumph card for the DC. The pace attack of Punjab has been doing well. Punjab’s pace duo of Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada have a joint-best economy of 9.9 in death overs in this IPL season. Rabada has taken most of the wickets in that phase.
The weather’s clear for tonight’s encounter. Every team prefers to chase at the venue, with the toss-winning captain likely electing to bat first.
As far as head to head is concerned, PBKS have won 14 while DC have emerged victorious 15 times. PBKS have drubbed DC five times out of nine encounters since 2018. This match is being termed as the “North Indian derby”.
PBKS have five 60+ Powerplay totals, while DC have achieved such totals three times in IPL 2022.
Mitch Marsh has 1133 runs in 29 innings at an average of 47.2, making him the highest run-scorer at the one-drop position in T20 cricket since 2021.
Rabada is on the threshold of achieving a personal milestone of 100 wickets. Currently, 97 wickets are in his kitty from 61 IPL games. He is aiming to overtake IPL legend Lasith Malinga as the fastest to grab 100 wickets. Malinga achieved this feat in 70 matches.
It is expected to be another do-or-die match for the two North Indian sides. Victory is the only option for both sides to remain in the tournament. But only one side will win. Be ready to watch some superb cricket from two outstanding sides in this season of the IPL.
