New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal has accused her father of sexual harassment in her childhood. On Saturday (March 11), at the award ceremony organized by the Women’s Commission, she narrated her ordeal and said that when I was a child, my father had sexually harassed me. He used to beat me, whenever he came home I was very scared and I used to hide under the bed.
She futher said that then I used to plan the whole night that I will teach a lesson to whoever treats women and girls like this. My father used to beat me mercilessly. I lived with my father till class 4. I believe that only when a person endures torture can he understand the pain of others. That’s when that person gets the courage to shake the whole system. Maybe the same thing happened to me.
Let us tell you that Swati Maliwal is the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). In 2021, Swati was given the responsibility of DCW for the third time in a row. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had approved the decision to give second term to the existing team of Delhi Commission for Women. Swati has been the head of the Delhi Commission for Women continuously since 2015.
Recently, Swati came into the limelight when she claimed to know the law and order situation regarding the safety of women on the streets of Delhi. Swati had told by tweeting- late night she was taking stock of the situation of women’s security in Delhi. That’s why a car owner molested her in a drunken state. When they caught him, the driver dragged him by locking his hand in the mirror of the car. Maliwal further said that God saved his life. If the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission is not safe in Delhi, then imagine the situation.
