Defence minister goes for a sortie on 1st made-in-India “Prachand” combat chopper at Jodhpur airbase

After being inducted into the Light Combat Helicopte fleet, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the LCH is fully capable of carrying a variety of ammunition to dodge the enemy and reach the site of the incident immediately.

Jodhpur: The dream that India had 22 years ago has now been fulfilled. After so many years of hard work, the Air Force has got the indigenous Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) on Monday. India’s strength has increased tremendously after the induction of this helicopter into the Air Force.

The first batch of indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) has been inducted to boost combat skills in the Indian Air Force. In the first batch, the Indian Air Force has received 10 helicopters. Indigenously built Light Combat Helicopters inducted into the Indian Air Force at Jodhpur. During this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also took off from the Light Combat Helicopter ‘Prachand’ at Jodhpur Airbase.

These light helicopters were christened in the presence of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, CDS General Anil Chauhan and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary. These light combat helicopters, which joined the Indian Air Force from Jodhpur airbase, have been named ‘Prachand’.

The 5.8-tonne twin-engine gunship chopper, armed with air-to-air missiles, 20 mm turret guns, rocket systems and other weapons, is developed by state-run aerospace major Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).

After being inducted into the fleet, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the LCH is capable of dodging the enemy, carrying a variety of ammunition and reaching the site of the incident quickly. LCHs fully meet the needs of our Armed Forces in various terrains. It is an ideal platform for both our Army and Air Force.

“It was a smooth and comfortable flight in the indigenously built Light Combat Helicopter (LCH). It can fly in any terrain, weather, and altitude; it has the capability to attack. Our motto is – make in India, make for the world,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said after his maiden sortie in indigenously developed LCH at Jodhpur airbase.

Rajnath Singh said attack helicopters were needed for a long time. Its need was felt seriously during the Kargil War of 1999. LCH is the result of two decades of research and development. Their induction into the Indian Air Force is an important milestone in defense production.

The helicopter can also be deployed in high-altitude bunker-busting operations, counter-insurgency operations in the jungles and urban environments, as well as for supporting ground forces.
