Defence Minister inaugurates 90 BRO projects in several states from Samba | Watch

Jammu: On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is on a one-day visit to Jammu at a BRO’s event in Samba district where he launched a total of 90 infrastructure projects worth Rs 2,941 crore. The projects include 22 roads, 63 bridges, one tunnel, two airstrips and two helipads spread across 10 border states and Union Territories of northern and the northeastern region.

The Defence Minister inaugurates 22 roads, 63 bridges, Nechiphu Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, two airfields in West Bengal and two helipads at a function organized by the Border Roads Organization at Devak Bridge on Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road in Jammu and Kashmir. These infrastructure projects have been constructed in difficult terrain and in challenging weather conditions.

Speaking at the inauguration of several BRO projects from the Devak Bridge site, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, “You all must be aware that recently ISRO has also planted the Indian flag on the Moon by successfully landing at “Shivshakti Point”.

But there was a time when ISRO could not even launch a satellite. We used to go to other countries and get our satellites launched into space. But gradually ISRO, with its hard work and dedication, became so expert in this work that today the situation has completely changed. Developing infra even in the border areas, which are considered inaccessible and difficult, has become a left-handed game for you today. Today, the result of all your hard work is that you have made even this difficult and seemingly difficult task so easy, he added.

The Devak bridge is of strategic importance to the defence forces and will facilitate speedy induction of troops, heavy equipment and mechanised vehicles to forward areas and will also boost the socio-economic development of the region, he said.

Singh inaugurated the state-of-the-art 422. 9 metre Devak bridge on the Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur Road in Samba district besides 89 other projects virtually.

The BRO projects include 22 roads, 63 bridges, one tunnel, two airstrips and two helipads across 10 border states and Union Territories of northern and northeastern regions constructed under challenging weather conditions, at most inhospitable terrain locations, he said.

According to a BRO spokesperson, Of the 89 projects inaugurated virtually, 36 are in Arunachal Pradesh, 25 in Ladakh, 11 are in Jammu and Kashmir, five in Mizoram, three in Himachal Pradesh, two each in Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Bengal and one each in Nagaland, Rajasthan and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
