The Ministry of Defence has granted approval for the procurement of 'Pralay' ballistic missiles for the Army.
In a significant development, the Indian Defence Ministry has given the green light to procure a regiment of ‘Pralay’ tactical ballistic missiles for the Indian Army, capable of striking targets at distances ranging from 150 to 500 kilometers. This marks a historic milestone as it will be the first time that ballistic missiles are integrated into the services for conventional operations, according to senior defence officials.
The Pralay missiles are currently undergoing mass production and are anticipated to be operationally ready in the near future, as confirmed by officials.
This decision by the Defence Ministry is viewed as a substantial enhancement of India’s defence capabilities. These missiles, with their impressive 500-kilometer range, are likely to be deployed along the borders with Pakistan and China.
The Pralay missiles are categorized as surface-to-surface missiles and will play a pivotal role in conventional military operations. An official source mentioned that they are currently in the mass production phase and will soon be ready for deployment.
The deployment of Pralay missiles is planned along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) bordering China and the Line of Control (LoC) bordering Pakistan. These missiles will be equipped with conventional warheads, primarily for tactical roles, strengthening India’s strategic posture in these regions.
It is noteworthy that the government’s decision to acquire these missiles for the Army closely follows a similar acquisition proposal clearance for the Indian Air Force, reflecting the nation’s commitment to bolstering its defence capabilities.
