Delhi: Two were killed and many were seriously injured when the basement wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Delhi on Thursday night. Four of them are critical and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. A fire department official said that a total of 13 people were trapped under the debris and were rescued after an hour.

Delhi Fire Service Director Atul Garg said that a house collapse was reported in Okhla Phase-2. Three fire engines were pressed into service. A crowd of local people has gathered on the spot. The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
Due to the collapse of the wall, there was chaos at the incident site. Speaking to the media, DCP Rajesh Deo of Delhi Police (Southeast) said, “Background verification of the documents of the under-construction building will be done. It will be probed whether the basement was constructed legally or not. Two people dead in the accident.” Confirmed to happen. More details coming soon.”
According to the police, the victims have been identified as Raman (18) and Mintu (50). Both were declared brought dead at AIIMS Trauma Center. Further, the police said that six persons were injured in the incident and three of them, Gulshan (28), Devendra (33) and Nitish (23) are currently undergoing treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Center in the red zone, while the other three Persons Arun (22), Nirmal (23) and Jaladhar (50) received minor injuries in the incident.
Reacting to the Okhla building collapse, the MCD said, “An untoward incident occurred today at property no. 98/3 okhla industrial area, Phase II, where five laborers were found under the ‘rubble’ due to a backslide, including Two laborers died and three were rescued. Construction was authorized and the building plan was approved.”
The accident site is an industrial plot in which a 20-feet-deep excavation was done to make the basement. In the evening, the soil at the rear of the plot slipped. The rescue operation was carried out by the Delhi Fire Service.
