New Delhi: Three armed men robbed a jewellery showroom in northeast Delhi’s Karawal Nagar on Tuesday. One of them was apprehended by the shop keepers when the accused tried to flee with the valuables. The man was arrested while two of his associates managed to escape with the jewellery after snatching a passerby’s motorcycle on Tuesday night.
According to police, the incident took place at Prem Vihar in Karawal Nagar where the three men came to commit the robbery at Jai Durga Jewellers. The incident was captured on the CCTV inside the shop. The two-minute-long video shows three helmet-wearing men entering the shop and threatening the owners.
The shop owner told police that several customers were present when the gunmen, wearing helmets, barged into the shop. One of the robbers threatens the shop keepers with a gun at the entrance while the other two go behind the counter and start filling up their bags with jewellery displayed to the customers.
A police officer said,”They took away the jewellery kept on the shop’s counter at gunpoint. As they tried to run away, the staff managed to caught hold of one of them. They also snatched his pistol.” The robbers were just about to flee with the loot when one of the shop keepers got into a physical altercation with them, raining blows.
The accused has been identified as Faizan 26-year-old,who was caught by the shop’s staf. He belongs to resident of Nand Nagari. Police said Faizan was facing three criminal cases and had recently come out of jail on bail. A pistol with four live cartridges was recovered from him. The two motorcycles left behind by the robbers have been seized by the police. Faizan is now being interrogated while a hunt is on to nab his two accomplices.
