New Delhi: Sanjeev Jha, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA, has received death threats, the Delhi Police said on Thursday. The police have been investigating the matter.
Sanjeev Jha is the AAP MLA from the Sant Nagar-Burari region in North Delhi.
The police claim that Mr Jha has consistently received extortion calls in the name of notorious gangster Neeraj Bawana. In addition, the caller threatened to kill him if he didn’t cough up the demanded ransom.
One of India’s most wanted gangsters, Neeraj Bawana, is currently detained in the capital’s Tihar jail. Meanwhile, on May 19, the Delhi High Court refused to grant interim bail to Bawana’s brother Pankaj Sehrawat because he had broken the terms of his release on April 16.
The petitioner, in a petition filed in the Delhi HC on May 19, said that during his interim bail, Sehrawat went on to show off his armed men to the general public in the hospital, which was clear from CCTV footage, and he had violated the bail conditions imposed by the court.
Pankaj Sehrawat had undergone surgery at Aalok Hospital on May 8 and was discharged the next day. Doctors had advised him to visit the hospital for a check-up after three days, but he failed to turn up.
The application seeking an extension of interim bail stated that the applicant was having acute pain and was not able to walk or sit properly and had been advised to have an operation.
