New Delhi: An axe falls on the maker of the movie ‘Kaali’, over its poster in which a Hindu goddess is shown smoking a cigarette. It really hurts the sentiments of the people after the appearance of the controversial poster on social media. The Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh Police have decided to register FIRs against the makers of the movie.
The FIRs slapped several charges, such as criminal conspiracy, offence in a place of worship, deliberately hurting religious sentiments, and intention to aggravate breach of peace.
The moment filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared the poster of the film on social media, people started giving their reaction to the controversial film poster. In the poster, it is clearly seen that a woman dressed in the costume of the goddess Kaali is smoking a cigarette in the photo. Along with her customary accessories of a trishul (trident), and sickle, the actor playing the goddess is shown wielding the LGBTQ+ community’s pride flag.
The IFSO unit has registered a case against the director, Leena Manimekalai, under IPC 153A and IPC 295A.
Earlier on Monday, the Indian High Commission in Canada issued a statement on the ‘smoking Kaali’ poster, and urged the Canadian authorities and the event organisers to remove “all such provocative material.”
