New Delhi: Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta has resigned today (on Sunday). Adesh Gupta has left his post after the defeat in MCD elections 2022. The Aam Aadmi Party has won the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections and the BJP had to face defeat under the leadership of Adesh Gupta. In the MCD elections, AAP won 134, BJP 104, Congress 9 and other candidates won 3 wards. After a tenure of 2 years, Adesh Gupta resigned from the post of president, taking moral responsibility for the defeat in the MCD elections.

Adesh Gupta had sent his resignation to BJP National President JP Nadda on the evening of December 8 itself, on which the decision has been taken today. Adesh Gupta’s resignation has been accepted. Now Virendra Sachdeva will take charge of Delhi BJP till further orders.

It is notable that in the election results that came on December 7, out of 250 wards of the Integrated Municipal Corporation, BJP was able to win only 104 seats. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party had won 134 seats. In the MCD elections, the BJP could not win seats even in Adesh Gupta’s area. Since then questions were being raised on Delhi BJP.

Earlier, Adesh Gupta had said on Friday that the mayor of MCD would be from the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP would play the role of a strong opposition in the House. With this, Adesh Gupta had put an end to the speculations of claiming the post of Mayor on behalf of BJP. He said that if AAP does corruption in MCD, then BJP councilors will oppose this thing.
