Delhi Court to Decide on Charges Against Brij Bhushan Singh in Sexual Harassment Case Today

Today, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi will make a crucial decision on whether to frame charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP, in a sexual harassment case lodged by six women wrestlers. The case, stemming from complaints by the wrestlers, resulted in two FIRs against Singh, including one under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Earlier attempts by Singh to seek further investigation into the case were dismissed by the court. On April 26, his plea for additional investigation, citing his absence from the country during the alleged incident, was rejected. Singh claimed he was in Serbia at the time and presented Call Detail Records (CDRs) as evidence. However, the court found the location of the coach to be near the WFI office during the incident.

The chargesheet, filed last year, contains allegations of sexual harassment, molestation, and stalking, supported by statements from 44 witnesses recorded under CrPC 164. Accused Vinod Tomar is also implicated for aiding in the commission of the crime. The chargesheet presents photographic evidence and witnesses’ accounts of inappropriate behavior by Singh.

The court’s decision today will be pivotal in determining the course of the legal proceedings against Singh, as he faces serious allegations brought forth by the women wrestlers.
