Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has called for a CBI inquiry regarding the new liquor policy by holding a press conference today. During this, Manish Sisodia has accused the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi’s new liquor policy. He said that the decision to cancel the new liquor policy was taken by the Lieutenant Governor without talking to the cabinet. Due to this, the Delhi government suffered a loss of thousands of crores. Manish Sisodia said that the new liquor policy was implemented only after the approval of the Lieutenant Governor. We demand a CBI inquiry into this matter.

Manish Sisodia said that he has sent information related to this central exploration Bureau (CBI). He said that 849 shops were opened in Delhi, including unauthorized areas under the new Excise Policy. Anil Baizzer did not resist this proposal and approved it. However, on November 15 last year, two days before the policy came into force, the LG changed its stand and introduced a condition that permission would be required from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). He alleged that there are liquor shops in unauthorized areas.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that due to the change in the stand of the then Lieutenant Governor, shops could not be opened in unauthorized areas, which resulted in loss of crores of rupees to the government. On the other hand, the shops that were opened earned a lot. Anil Baijal was the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi when the new excise policy was prepared by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led government. This policy was implemented on 17 November 2021.

Taking action on Saturday, LG VK Saxena has ordered suspension and disciplinary proceedings against the then Delhi Excise Commissioner Arva Gopi Krishna and the then Deputy Commissioner Anand Kumar Tiwari. Along with this, suspension orders have been given against 9 other officers of the Excise Department.

The LG has taken this order in view of the serious lapse in the implementation of the excise policy on the part of the concerned authorities. This includes finding irregularities in tendering and providing post tender benefits to selected vendors.

At present, the Delhi government has now withdrawn this policy and it is preparing to operate liquor shops under the old excise system from September 1. Manish Sisodia said that it should be investigated why Anil Baijal changed his stand, which benefited some people and caused financial loss to the government. He said that it should also be investigated whether the former governor took this decision under any pressure and whether the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has any connection with it.
