New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court ordered the police to bring in a woman and her minor daughter who were reportedly being held by her parents in Uttar Pradesh.
The woman and her seven-year-old child must appear before the court on Friday, Justice Jasmeet Singh ordered the Delhi Police to do.
The woman’s husband had filed a habeas corpus petition, asking the court to order the authorities to bring his wife and daughter, who were being held against their will by the woman’s parents.
The plea said the family members of the woman as well as that of her previous deceased husband were against her inter-caste marriage with the petitioner and they had been threatening him.
It claimed that the woman had been imprisoned by her family since January.
A habeas corpus petition is submitted in order to bring a person who is being held against their will into court.
The woman and the little child are in Uttar Pradesh, the Delhi Police attorney said the court, adding that the department will bring them here.
“It is directed that the woman and daughter to be produced in court on Friday, the court said.
