Delhi High Court to Deliver Verdict on Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest Plea Today

The Delhi High Court is set to announce its decision today on Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest in the liquor scam case. The Delhi Chief Minister, currently detained in Tihar jail, faces allegations related to a money laundering case linked to the excise scam.

Judgment Pronouncement at 2:30 PM

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma will deliver the verdict at 2:30 pm today. Kejriwal, along with former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, is lodged in Tihar jail over the excise policy scandal.

Kejriwal Challenges Arrest and Remand

Apart from contesting his arrest, Kejriwal has also challenged his subsequent remand in the Enforcement Directorate’s custody. Initially detained by the ED, he was later placed in judicial custody.

Debate Over Timing and Immunity

Kejriwal has questioned the timing of his arrest, alleging it violates constitutional principles like democracy and free elections. Meanwhile, the ED has argued against granting immunity, asserting that the law applies equally to all.

Legal Proceedings and Background

Arrested on March 21, Kejriwal’s plea for protection from coercive action was denied by the high court. Subsequently, he was remanded to judicial custody on April 1 after his ED custody ended. The case centers on corruption and money laundering allegations surrounding Delhi’s excise policy for 2021-22, which was later annulled.
