New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Thursday hit back at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over allegations of corruption by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The Lt Governor said that he (Kejriwal) in desperation is adopting diversionary methods and making false allegations. Tensions were seen between the two after Saxena recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in July into alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Arvind Kejriwal government’s now withdrawn Excise Policy 2021-22.

Lt Governor VK Saxena tweeted, “I advocated good governance, zero tolerance for corruption and better service to the people of Delhi. But unfortunately, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ji in desperation adopted diversionary methods and made false allegations.” He said in a brief statement on Twitter that if in the days to come also, “such more baseless” allegations were leveled against him and his family members. They will not be surprised if there are personal attacks. “He (Kejriwal) should know that I will not deviate from my constitutional duties under any circumstances. My commitment to improve the quality of life of the people of Delhi is unshakable.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Durgesh Pathak had accused Saxena of corruption in the Delhi Assembly, claiming that he had demonetised Indian currency during his tenure as chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in 2016. The notes were exchanged. The AAP had demanded a CBI probe against Saxena, alleging that there was a scam of Rs 1,400 crore in the case. Terming the allegations against him as false and defamatory, the Lt Governor has decided to initiate legal action against some AAP leaders. This information was given by the officials of his office on Wednesday.
