New Delhi: The Rouse Avenue Court has sent former Deputy CM of Delhi Government Manish Sisodia to ED remand for five days. Today ED produced Manish Sisodia in court and sought seven days judicial custody for questioning. After which the court decided to send Manish Sisodia to ED remand for five days.
Today, ED presented former Deputy CM of Delhi Government Manish Sisodia in Rouse Avenue Court. Counsel Zoheb Hussain, appearing for the ED, told the court that Sisodia was repeatedly changing his statement. Now they have to interrogate three people face to face. ED has requested the court to remand Manish Sisodia for seven days. ED says that Sisodia destroyed his phone, he needs to be interrogated once again.
Sisodia’s counsel opposed the ED’s request to extend his remand period, saying the probe agency is not talking about proceeds of crime. He told the court that the case of changing the phone was part of the remand of the CBI, now the remand cannot be given again on the same basis. Advocate Mohit Mathur said that an agency had already inquired about the email dump in October last year. After so many days, again the same question is beyond comprehension.
Sisodia through his lawyer said that if he is not needed on March 18 and 19, then he should be sent to jail. However, the court has reserved its decision after hearing both sides.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 in the liquor policy case and sent to judicial custody for 14 days on March 6. He was arrested in connection with alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the excise policy of the National Capital Territory. Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court sent him to judicial custody till March 20. His bail plea is scheduled to be heard on March 21.
In Delhi, the Kejriwal government had implemented a new excise policy on 17 November 2021. The Delhi government had argued to end the mafia rule by bringing a new excise policy. It was also claimed that this would also increase the revenue of the government. In July 2022, the then Chief Secretary of Delhi submitted a report to LG VK Saxena in this matter. In this along with the mistake in the excise policy, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia was also accused of giving undue benefits to liquor traders.
Based on this report, the CBI registered a case against 15 people including Sisodia on 17 August 2022. On August 22, the ED had registered a case of money laundering under the excise policy. CBI arrested Sisodia after 6 months of investigation.
