Delhi man opens fire on neighbours over bursting crackers in Keshav Puram, 4 injured

During Diwali, a dispute arose over a person living in the neighborhood refusing to light firecrackers, in which 3 rounds of bullets were fired by the accused. At present the police is investigating the matter.

New Delhi: In the whole country including the capital Delhi, people involved in the celebration of Deepawali fired fireworks fiercely last night. Diwali was also being celebrated in Keshav Puram police station area of ​​Delhi by bursting firecrackers. During this, a dispute arose over a person living in the neighborhood refusing to light firecrackers, in which 3 rounds of bullets were fired by the accused.

A man, reportedly in an inebriated state, opened fire on his neighbours injuring four people, including a woman following a scuffle over bursting firecrackers, police said on Tuesday.

It is said that some people who were burning firecrackers on the road started a dispute between a young man living in the neighborhood and this dispute turned into a bloody game. After the scuffle, three rounds of bullets were fired by the accused, in which three people including a woman were seriously injured. The injured were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The condition of one still remains critical.

Local people say that the incident of firing by the accused has been carried out. Earlier, the accused was threatening people to shoot many times. The matter was informed to the police. Where the top officials of North West Delhi reached the spot, the whole matter is being investigated.

Police said that the accused, identified as 41-year-old Arvind, a resident of Tri Nagar in Keshav Puram, has been arrested and an illegal automatic pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from his possession, reported IANS.

The injured neighbours identified as Manju Jain, Dalmeet Singh, Shubham Jain, and Ankur Jain have been admitted to a hospital for treatment and their health condition is said to be stable, said, police officials.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest), Usha Rangnani said a police control room (PCR) through a call was informed about the firing incident under Keshav Puram police station on the intervening night of October 24-25.

“After receiving the information through the call, a police team immediately rushed to the spot and found 4 injured people, who were shifted to a nearby hospital. After inquiry, it was revealed that the accused Arvind got irritated by the noise in his neighbourhood, as some people were bursting crackers in the locality. When he confronted them, he got agitated and fired gunshots and injured 4 people,” the DCP said as reported by sources.

A case under Sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered at Keshav Puram police station and the accused Arvind was arrested, the DCP said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
