Delhi Metro Sets New Record with 71.09 Lakh Daily Riders on Feb 13

Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever daily ridership on February 13, reaching a staggering 71.09 lakh passenger journeys. The urban transporter shared this data on social media platform X, proudly announcing its triumph over the previous milestone set in September.

Unprecedented Daily Ridership Amidst Challenges

The historic record was established against the backdrop of significant challenges, including heavy traffic jams in the National Capital Region (NCR) and heightened security due to a farmers’ march towards Delhi. The feat reflects the resilience and popularity of the Delhi Metro as a preferred mode of transportation.

Beating Previous Records

The Delhi Metro had previously achieved a daily passenger journey count of 71.03 lakh on September 4 and 69.94 lakh on August 29 in 2023, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan festival. The recent record-breaking figure of 71.09 lakh on February 13 reaffirms the consistent growth and trust in the metro system.

Operational Adjustments for Commuters

On February 12, the Delhi Metro strategically regulated passenger entry and exit at nine stations, closing specific gates for several hours due to the farmers’ march. This proactive measure allowed commuters to use alternative gates for entry and exit during the temporary adjustments.

Continuous Expansion and Commitment to Commuters

With a current network spanning nearly 392 km and 286 stations, including the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor and Rapid Metro in Gurugram, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) remains committed to enhancing the commuting experience. The DMRC expressed gratitude to passengers for their patronage and emphasized the positive environmental impact of choosing metro travel over private vehicles.

DMRC’s Contribution to a Greener City

Highlighting the eco-friendly nature of the Delhi Metro, the DMRC stated that the system’s preference by more passengers over private vehicles contributes to reduced vehicular emissions, positively impacting air quality in the city and its surroundings.

Breakdown of Record-Breaking Journeys

The DMRC shared data detailing the breakdown of line journeys on various corridors. Of the 71,09,171 passenger journeys recorded on February 13, notable contributions came from the Red Line (7,57,629), Yellow Line (19,34,568), Green Line (3,35,350), and Rapid Metro (51,910), among others. This diverse usage reflects the extensive reach and utility of the Delhi Metro across different lines.
