Delhi mob lynching: Muslim man, 26, beaten to death over the suspicion of theft

Unidentified assailants in East Delhi tied a 26-year-old man to a pole and beat him to death on suspicion of being a thief. DCP said that the body was taken to GTB Hospital. Post mortem will be done today. A case has been registered and efforts are being made to identify and arrest the boys who attacked Isar.

New Delhi: A case of mob lynching came to fore from Delhi where a Muslim man died after being brutally beaten by some unidentified men in Northeast Delhi yesterday over the suspicion of theft. Victim identified as Israr Ahmed, 26, was tied to a pole and beaten with sticks in Nand Nagri area yesterday morning by a group of men who accused him of theft.

The video of the incident, which is doing rounds on social media, shows Israr tied to a pole as the men take turns to hit him with sticks. In a clip, Israr cries in pain and pleads, but the men continue to thrash him mercilessly.

His father Abdul Wajid told the police that their neighbour later brought him home and informed him about the incident.

According to the police, a call was received at 10:46 pm on Tuesday, in which fruit seller Abdul Wajid told that when he reached home at around 6:30 pm, he saw his son Isaar lying outside the house.

Isar had injury marks all over his body and was in pain. Isar told them that around 5 am on Tuesday, some boys had caught him near G4 Block, Sunder Nagari. They thought he was a thief. Let us tell you that Isar was the only brother of his four sisters. Due to his murder, his relatives are in bad condition and crying.

Deputy Commissioner of Police said that mob tied him to a pillar on suspicion of theft. They beat him with sticks for some time. He identified his attackers as some boys living near G-4 block in Sunder Nagari area.

Ruling out communal overtones, the police said preliminary investigation revealed that the people who attacked Israr were from both communities.

Officials said that a murder case has been registered and some accused have been identified while efforts are going on to nab others. “We will arrest them soon”, police said.
