New Delhi: AltNews co-founder Mohammad Zubair, who was arrested over a 2018 tweet, was produced in Patilaya House Court on Saturday, 2 July. The Delhi Police has accused Mohammad Zubair of conspiracy and destruction of evidence during the production. Delhi Police said that we have seized Zubair’s mobile phone and recovered a hard disk. The police has demanded from the court to send Zubair to judicial custody for 14 days. On the other hand, Zubair has filed a bail application.
During the presentation, Delhi Police have added three new Sections – 201 (for the destruction of evidence – formatted phone & deleted tweets), 120-(B) (for criminal conspiracy) of IPC and The third is Section 35 of the FCRA in connection with the allegation that he received donations from foreign countries.
According to the Delhi Police, during the investigation of the Zubair case, the reply received from the Razorpay Payment gateway has revealed that Zubair has had several transactions. In which either foreign mobile numbers were used or IP addresses were from foreign countries. These mobile numbers and IP addresses are Bangkok, Western, Australia, Manama, North Holland, Singapore, Victoria, New York, England, Riyadh Region, Sharjah, Stockholm, Aichi, Central & Western, Eastern Province, Abu Dhabi, Washington, Kansas, New belonged to Jersey, Ontario, California, SS, Lower Saxony, Bern, Dubai, Usima, Scotland. Not only this, “Pravda Media” has got a total of Rs 2 lakh 31 thousand 933.
Police said that Zubair’s social media investigation has revealed that the Twitter handle who was supporting Zubair and his tweets and even after Zubair’s arrest were tweeting in support of Zubair, the Twitter handle Middle East country UAE, Bahrain , were being handled from Kuwait and Pakistan.
Mohammad Zubair is accused of making a controversial tweet in the year 2018, which has hurt Hindu sentiments. A case was registered in this matter in Delhi. After which the fact checker and co-founder of AltNews Mohammad Zubair was arrested and remanded on 27 June. The next day on June 28, during the court appearance, he was sent to four-day police custody. Mohammad Zubair has challenged the validity of this remand order.
Who is Mohammad Zubair
Mohammad Zubair is the co-founder of the fact checking website AltNews. Zubair started Altnews website in the year 2017 along with Prateek Sinha, a software engineer. It was Zubair who had tweeted the controversial statements of BJP’s national spokesperson Nupur Sharma, after which the Indian government had to face severe criticism from the Gulf countries. While BJP had expelled Nupur Sharma, on the other hand the government had also distanced itself from the statements.
