New Delhi: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, the Delhi Police Special Cell uncovered a terror plot with the arrest of two people who had suspected links with terrorist organisations.
Delhi Police carried out a raid at a residence in Jahangirpuri, northwest of Delhi, during the operation they seized three pistols and 22 ammunition from the suspect. The raid took place on Thursday evening.
Following the raids, police detained Naushad, 56, and Jagjit Singh, 29, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Both were sent to 14-day police custody yesterday.
Two hand grenades were found at a residence after police searched Bhalswa Dairy on Friday night. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was roped in to gather the samples after police discovered blood stains on the walls of the house that was raided.
Police sources claimed that Jagjit and Naushad were involved in a murder that took place near Bhalaswa Dairy. It became clear after the investigation by the Delhi police that Jagjit Singh had a link with Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla, while Naushad had a contact with the terrorist organisation Harkat ul-Ansar. He was out of prison after serving a 10-year jail term in a double murder case.
The Home Ministry said on Monday that Gill alias Arsh Dala, who was born in Ludhiana but has been living in Canada, is involved in the cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons on a large scale.
Gill is linked with the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and runs terror modules on behalf of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist.
