Delhi: Rouse avenue Court defers orders in Sisodia’s bail plea in Excise policy case

New Delhi: The decision on the bail of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, arrested in the liquor scam, has been postponed once again. Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has deferred till April 28 the decision on the bail plea of the second tallest leader of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Sisodia had filed a petition for bail in a money laundering case related to the liquor scam. Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 26 February and by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 9 March. Since then several attempts to get Sisodia bail have failed.

On the previous date also, Special Judge MK Nagpal had reserved the order after hearing arguments on Sisodia’s plea. Sisodia claimed in the petition that his custody was no longer required for the investigation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the plea saying the probe was at a ‘critical’ stage. The ED had said that it had found fresh evidence implicating Sisodia in the alleged crime. On March 31, the court had rejected Sisodia’s bail plea.

Earlier, the CBI filed a charge sheet against Manish Sisodia and three others on Tuesday. Special Judge MK Nagpal fixed May 12 for consideration of the charge sheet. The CBI had argued that sanction to prosecute Sisodia has been obtained from the competent authorities.

The CBI had arrested Sisodia on February 26 and filed the chargesheet on the 58th day, making him unlikely to get automatic bail. In the case of corruption, the investigating agency has to file a charge sheet against the accused within 60 days of his arrest, otherwise the person becomes entitled to natural bail.
