A case of death of a BJP leader and social worker under suspicious circumstances has come to light after he was shot in Greater Kailash area. BJP leader Karan Banka was found lying in the bathroom of his house in a bloody condition.
New Delhi: A youth, 28, died days after he allegedly shot himself from the weapon of his personal security officer (PSO) in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash area, police said on Saturday. The deceased was politically active and “associated with the BJP”, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary said.
According to DCP official, information was received late night on September 20 that Karan Banka, who lives in Greater Kailash-1, slipped in his bathroom and suffered a head injury. He was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket. Initial probe revealed that he was facing financial difficulties and needed money.
Police taken body in their custody and started investigation. Initial police investigation has revealed that Karan has shot himself. There are bullet marks on the head. His body will be subjected to postmortem on Sunday. The whole situation will become clear only after postmortem.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Chandan Choudhary said that Karan lived with his family in Greater Kailash – Part One. His father is a big businessman. Karan had hired a private security officer (PSO). The weapon was licensed and belongs to his PSO Dinesh, police said.
The PSO was not at home on Wednesday. He had left his pistol at home. However, Karan’s family told Max Hospital that he was injured after falling in the bathroom. The hospital informed the police about this matter. When the police started investigation, it was found that Karan was shot in the head.
Initial inquiries revealed that Karan was actively involved in politics. “In recent times, he was facing financial difficulties and was seeking investments from people known to him,” the DCP said.
“Unfortunately, he died due to his injuries on Saturday. Appropriate legal action is being taken in the matter,” the DCP said.
