The case pertains to appointments made in the Railways in lieu of land allegedly gifted or sold to Lalu Prasad's family when he was Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009.

New Delhi: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the money laundering probe related to the alleged land-for-job scam. Tejashwi Yadav was questioned by the investigating agency for 9 hours. Talking to the media after leaving the ED office, the RJD leader said that we are already saying that all this is happening since the government was formed. Everything is being done for 2024. When we have not done anything then what will they inquire?

CBI is also probing the matter?

The ED had registered a separate case under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on the CBI’s FIR. ED has recorded the statement of Tejashwi Yadav in this case. Tejashwi Yadav’s sister and MP Misa Bharti was also questioned by the ED in this case on March 25, the same day Tejashwi appeared before the CBI. Both the central agencies recently initiated action in the matter. The CBI interrogated Lalu Prasad and his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, while the ED raided several places in connection with its probe against the RJD chief’s family.

The ED then said it seized unaccounted cash of Rs 1 crore and traced the proceeds of crime to Rs 600 crore. The agency said further investigation is underway to unearth further investments made by Prasad’s family and their associates in various sectors, including real estate, at various places.

Know the whole matter

The case pertains to appointments made in the Railways in lieu of land allegedly gifted or sold to Lalu Prasad’s family when he was Railway Minister between 2004 and 2009. At that time there was a United Progressive Alliance (UPA-1) government at the center. Making special mention of Tejashwi Yadav, the ED had said that the property located at D-1088, New Friends Colony in South Delhi is an independent four-storey bungalow registered in the name of AB Exports Private Limited.

This company has been called the ‘beneficiary firm’ in this case. The ED had said that this company is owned and controlled by Tejashwi Yadav and his family and the house was acquired at a price of Rs 4 lakh only, whereas its present The market value is around Rs 150 crore.
