Delhi: Unidentified man opens fire in front of Punjab ex-MLA’s house; FIR registered

New Delhi: A Police said that Unidentified men fired shots at the house of former Punjab MLA Deep Malhotra’s house in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Sunday. The shooters are yet to be arrested. Nobody was injured in the firing. Malhotra is a former Shiromani Akali Dal legislator from Faridkot.

New Delhi: A Police said that Unidentified men fired shots at the house of former Punjab MLA Deep Malhotra’s house in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area on Sunday. The shooters are yet to be arrested. Nobody was injured in the firing.

Malhotra is a former Shiromani Akali Dal legislator from Faridkot. A senior official said,“At around 6.45 pm, an information was received regarding firing in front of the house of Deep Malhotra, a former MLA of Faridkot, Punjab, in Punjabi Bagh area. No one received any injury in the incident.”

He added, “The teams from the Punjabi Bagh police station reached the spot and started an investigation. An FIR has been registered.” In February, his son Gautam Malhotra was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the alleged Delhi excise scam case.

According to DCP (west) Vichitra Veer, the local station house officer received a call around 6.45pm. Police said that some empty cartridges have been found on the spot. It has come out in the initial enquiry that some people had fired in the air in front of the house and fled, they said.

After the investigation, the DCP said, “Some empty cartridges were found at the spot. In the initial enquiry, it has come to fore that the persons came on foot, fired in the air in front of the house and went away.”

Police are looking into several aspects as possible reasons behind the incident. Crime Branch and Special Cell are also investigating this. Senior officials said that they did not have any information regarding any threat received by the complainant. “However, that aspect is being looked into,” Veer said.

After this incident, the officer said,“We are investigating the case from all angles. The crime team has been called on the spot for a thorough inspection” A case has been registered. Police have collected footage of six-seven CCTV cameras and are mapping the entry and exit of the shooters.Malhotra is the chairman and managing director of Oasis Group, which deals in manufacturing and distribution of alcohol.
