Mumbai: On Wednesday (March 8) at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team stopped an Indian national and seized cash from her luggage bag. Seized 7.6 kg of heroin (narcotic substance) worth Rs 53 crore. The accused had made a cavity in her luggage bag for smuggling heroin.

DRI sources said that they had received information that on March 7, a passenger was about to arrive in India from abroad with heroin worth crores of rupees, after which the officials laid a trap at the Mumbai International Airport and reached Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). Suspected Indian citizen passenger who came to India from Addis Ababa was taken into custody for investigation.

The passenger was subsequently arrested on Wednesday. During interrogation, she revealed that she was lured into smuggling by a Delhi-based woman, who had introduced her to a foreigner woman in Delhi in December last year. The foreigner offered to give her ₹3 lakh per trip as commission if she successfully smuggled contraband from Zambia to India, said the DRI source.

This is how DRI recovered heroin worth crores from luggage bag

The DRI official said that the bag of the suspected passenger was searched and nothing was found, but when it was examined carefully, it was found that a cavity was made in the bag, which on opening found 7.6 kg of off-white colored powder. . When this powder was examined, it was found that it was heroin.

Accused sent to DRI custody

DRI officials told that the price of 7.6 kg heroin in the international market is Rs 53 crore. The DRI arrested the passenger and produced him in the court, from where he was sent to DRI custody till March 10. The DRI team is further investigating the matter so that the entire network of the smuggler can be traced.
