A senior police officer said a PCR call was recorded around 5:33 am, where the caller said that a tempo had hit three people, including a woman, near Majnu Ka Tila, 56 Pahari, Civil Lines.
After getting information about this accident, Police reached the spot and found a Tata Ace vehicle lying in a crashed condition at the spot and five people were injured, the officer said. Police said the injured were taken to the trauma center where Jyoti (32) was declared dead while her daughter died during treatment.
Subhash (30) and two children aged six and 17 suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from the hospital. Police said that people caught the accused driver Dinesh Rai, resident of Karawal Nagar and beat him up, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.
According to the police information, he has been arrested. DCP said, a case has been registered under IPC sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by endangering the life or personal safety of others), 304A (causing death by negligence) and further investigation is underway.
