Dispute over pet dog in elevator leads to massive clash at Noida housing society

Noida: An altercation over taking a dog in an elevator led to a massive fight between residents in a Noida apartment on Monday. A barrage of blows and slaps rained down on a woman after a retired civil servant refused to allow her to take her dog in the lift at Park Laureate Society in Sector 108, where the entire episode was captured on a CCTV camera on the premises.

In the clip, two women with their pet dog could be seen in Noida apartment lift, when a man (retired IAS) stops the lift and asks them to depart with their pet. Their dispute soon took a violent turn when one of the women started filming the IAS officer obstructing the lift.

During the clash the man apparently slapped the woman, following which her husband entered the scene and she narrated the incident to him. Soon, another episode of slaps and blows began while the woman stopped other residents from entering the lift to save the man.

The guards and other apartment’s security officers come to the scene and ask all occupants of the elevator to free the space.

Cops reached the apartment after the video of the clash went viral on social media and checked the CCTV footage. The police said they received no formal complaint on the incident and that the matter was resolved after a dialogue between both parties.

However, police said they continue their investigation in this matter.

Whether dogs can be taken in lifts has been a matter of dispute between pet owners and apartment residents across the country. Many instances of clashes over such issues have been reported too in recent times.

Many apartments in Noida have banned taking dogs in lifts, but pet owners argue that such instructions are not legally enforceable. The apartment body cites several incidents of dog attacks in lifts as the reason behind the move. Last year, a pet owner was fined ₹ 10,000 by the Greater Noida administration after his dog bit a six-year-old child in an apartment lift.
